Ponder the Following Facts

Once again, I don’t know who wrote this since I received it in an email, but I think it is excellent.

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five   were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

  1. Your right – shame the dems know nothing about about, love of country (ayers wright, etc etc etc etc) allowing born babies to live, not crashing the economy through unrepayable mortgages.

Lying, self serving elitist are who I want to lead us.

A great example to set for our kids.

  2. Education isn’t everything, but neither is morality.

I feel that a president, no matter how trustworthy, needs to understand the intricacies of the Constitution that they swear to uphold. It’s hard to make an argument that you’ll defend that document if you haven’t even taken the time to study it.

I also find the “elitist” charge hard to swallow. We want elite athletes playing our sports, elite doctors administering surgery, elite actors in our movies — in every other aspect of life we demand eliteness. Yet, when it comes to the most important job in the country, “elite” is flung around like it’s a dirty word. Why is that?

The Repubs are imploding this year because they are losing the alliance between the fiscal conservatives (libertarians) and social conservatives (Christian Right). The former have realized that it’s easier these days to get the Dems to agree to fiscally conservative policies than to get the Repubs to agree to socially liberal policies. I like what Barack said in his latest speech about this — it’s not about bigger government or smaller government, it’s about *better* government.

That was a green light for the libertarian hold-outs, who are fleeing the Republican Party in droves this election. I expect a blowout.

The minority that is the Christian Right will always be there, shouting their hate loudly and trying to impose their beliefs on the rest of us. For them, it will always be about gays or baby-killing (or video games or movies or comic books or whatever else they try to ban).

Fortunately, without the help of the fiscal conservatives voting them into office, their hatred will not overcome the unity that the rest of the country is now embracing. Unity that brings both liberal and conservative policies to the table to find common ground, without all the demonizing that most of us are sick of.

See you at the polls! 🙂
